2020, would have been a troubled soul looking at the helplessness with which
the virus has put all of us in the age of the AI and ML to struggle, had he
lived to see this day.
Ifs and buts should be a creative
person's புல்லும் ஆயுதம் moment. May be, he would have asked ISRO to produce
ventilators or made atomic research centers to perform virus research. He would
have made a difference, even if we don't find any solution, the very presence
of the man who has moved more than an atom in the past would have kept our
Nation's collective confidence level high. It would have been like having MSD
in still to bat list to finish off a run chase, for a nation devoid of heroes.
The humanitarian and ideological lacunae which we have witnessed over the past
few years would have looked an altogether different picture with a man so
humble but intelligent, and more importantly with a scientific temper.
To think how much the world has
moved from hailing 'யாதும் ஊரே யாவரும்கேளிர்' beaming in European union,
ushering in universal brotherhood from the eons of tamil literature to
stopping international movements and banning travel and asking migrants to go
to their homelands in this time of crises. The world spoke the language of ghar
wapsi in union. The inward looking culture of me, my nation first came this
time as an antidote to the overkill of globalization pushed down our throats
which made us have avocado toast and quinoa sandwich for breakfast.
The news spreading of having
vaccines and cost effective test kits being formulated are good news, the
thousands of lives lost and the panic the pandemic has struck in us, instilling
the fear of their respective Gods in everyone's mind is hopefully once in a

If we can pin a universal medicine to
world problems, it is MODERATION.
Any economical, ecological and
social problem has its roots in lack of moderation as a direct impact of
capitalistic mind-set being injected into our educational and socio economic
conditioning in the last 30 years if not more. A direct parallel with the
causal agents of the covid 19 spread is also from gastronomical greed to have
unique animals on the palate.
What the world leaders are
wondering; if a planned adaptation to the virus through herd immunity or a
conservative lockdown for a short period of time to be extended until a
convincing pattern emerges out of the outbreak or an antidote to the virus is
found out that can prevent further spread of the disease and further loss of
life - is a matter of time. Each nation's approach is a factor of multiple
variables at play from geopolitical to level of scientific advancements to even
the confidence of the citizens in their governments.
One thing that the virus has done
is to change the world leaders who are living in denial to come to terms with
the sordid reality that the disease is real and won’t subside without tasting
blood. May be this is a much needed wake up call, lest we take global warming
and destruction of natural habitats with ridiculous ease looking the other way.
Till then, we shall wait, one day
at a time for a new world order, to not take things for granted and to go easy
on the planet..
